Nigeria – At least 2,000 houses in some parts of Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria, have been submerged by flood as a result of a heavy rainfall. The flood was said to have been caused by an unusual heavy downpour that lasted for over 48 hours. The rainfall which started on Saturday night till Monday morning, caused massive floods at Abubakar Kigo road new extension, Barnawa, Ungwar-Rimi, Gonin-Gora, Karatudu, Kachia, Romi among others. More than 30, 000 people had been forced out of their homes following the incident.


Wildfires – California, USA – Update

California fire officials said Sunday the wildfire north of San Francisco destroyed another 162 homes, raising the number of homes destroyed to 1,050 and making it the fourth worst wildfire in the state’s history.

The tally brought the total number of homes destroyed in two wildfires burning in Northern California the past two weeks to nearly 1,600, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. Those fires killed five people, and on Sunday authorities announced that a body was found near the source of a new wildfire in Monterey County that destroyed or damaged 10 homes.

Farther north, the two massive wildfires (Valley and Butte wildfires) continue to threaten at least 6 500 more homes.


Mad cow disease reported in Slovenia

A case of Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), or mad cow disease was confirmed in a 12-year-old cow, which died on a farm in Adlešiči, in southeastern Slovenia, according to the World Organisation of Animal Health (OIE).

Testing by the National Veterinary Institute (National laboratory) were positive for BSE via rapid tests and Western Blot. The animal will be killed and safely disposed of.
