Illinois, USA – Flooding north of Chicago could worsen on Sunday as rivers keep rising after a deluge earlier this week that damaged thousands of homes and sent water cascading into streets and basements, officials said. Thousands of homes were affected by flooding after storms dumped more than 7 inches (18 cm) of rain in the area on Tuesday and Wednesday.

India – Update – At least 80 people have been killed across 58 districts in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur due to severe flooding in the region. Assam is worst hit as the flood has affected over 17 lakh people and claimed over 49 lives. Other Northeastern states have also been badly hit. Arunachal Pradesh has taken a major hit to its road infrastructure while crops and plantations have been destroyed in Nagaland and Manipur. Not only people, animals too are facing brunt of the floods as 58 animals have lost their lives in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park alone. Around 77% of the park, which the home to largest concentration of the world’s remaining one horned rhinoceros, has been inundated, forcing animals to move to nearby highlands.

Thousands of Williams Lake, B.C., residents are being forced from their homes as high winds fan a wildfire burning next to the community. An evacuation order was issued Saturday evening for the entire City of Williams Lake and numerous surrounding areas including the village of 150 Mile House that have been under threat from nearby fires for almost a week.

BC Wildfire Service said Saturday there are about 161 active wildfires in the province, 14 of which pose a direct threat to communities.
