Bangladesh – The first monsoon rains have hit camps in Bangladesh housing around a million Rohingya refugees, triggering floods and landslides but no casualties or major damage so far, officials said Sunday. Aid agencies have been warning that the monsoon season could prompt a humanitarian catastrophe in coming months at what is the world’s biggest refugee camp, sheltering people fleeing violence in Myanmar. The sites in southeastern Bangladesh are predicted to be hit by powerful cyclones and by more than 2.5 metres of rainfall over the coming three months of monsoon – roughly triple what Britain gets in a year.

Wisconsin, USA – Flash flooding hit parts of southwestern Wisconsin, southeastern Minnesota and northeastern Iowa Saturday. The National Weather Service says 6 to 7 inches of rain fell in Spring Valley in southeastern Minnesota. Northern and central Grant County received up to 8 inches of additional rainfall Saturday night. Some rural roads are washed out and impassable. Crews have rescued a number of people from stranded vehicles after flash flooding in southwestern Wisconsin.


Wildfires – Colorado, USA _ Update

The so-called 416 Fire in southwest Colorado had burned nearly 17,000 acres (6,880 hectares) by Sunday afternoon, an area larger than Manhattan. More than 800 firefighters were battling the blaze located north of Durango, which was 10 percent contained. The fire had burned about 9,000 acres (3,640 hectares) by early on Saturday, according to an aerial survey. A mandatory evacuation order was issued on Sunday for 859 residences, bringing the total number of homes under evacuation to about 2,000.


Rift Valley Fever – Kenya

Kenyan health authorities in the north-eastern Wajir County have banned the movement of cloven-hoofed animals and the consumption of meat and milk following a localised outbreak of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) that has killed at least 4 people and 40 domestic animals.

The Malaysia Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) reported this week on the current Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) situation, which shows an increase in the number of cases. As of May 26, 2018, the number of cases reported was 21,644 cases.
