In the Western Pacific Ocean: Typhoon 29w (Kammuri), located approximately 285 nm east-southeast of Manila, Philippines, is tracking westward at 09 knots.


France – Heavy rain and storms returned to southeast France on Sunday, with national weather agency Météo France placing the departments of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Drôme and Vaucluse on orange alert and Var and the Alpes-Maritimes on red alert for flood and thunderstorm risk. Torrential rain of “exceptional intensity” began in the early hours of Sunday throughout the Rhone Valley. The storm eventually drifted to the Alpine regions and western Provence by the morning and rainfall continued throughout much of Sunday. There have been reports of two deaths due to the floods, while a further three people died when a rescue helicopter went down.

Record Temperature in South Africa

Vioolsdrif, a village in the Northern Cape, has broken a new record for the highest temperature in the country — reaching over 50 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, it reached a new record of 50.1°C and then it broke its own record again on Friday by reaching 53.2°C.

There was an upper high weather system situated over the area that resulted in an increase of temperatures, which is the reason we had a heatwave condition in parts of SA. Planet Earth and Storm Report SA reported that the temperature recorded at the Viooldrif weather station is now the highest yet recorded anywhere in Africa in the modern era.


Measles – Samoa

In an update on the measles epidemic in Samoa, health officials reported an additional 198 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the outbreak total to 3,728 measles cases since early September. In addition, during the same 24 hours, tragically five more measles related deaths have been reported, bringing the total to 53.

Hepatitis A – Indonesia

The Depok administration in West Java has declared an emergency following a hepatitis A outbreak in the city that has affected dozens of students and teachers, prompting authorities to impose health measures for treatment and efforts to prevent the disease from spreading.
