In the Eastern Pacific Ocean: Tropical storm 09e (Elida), located approximately 1069 nm southeast of San Diego, is tracking west-northwestward at 13 knots.

In the Western Pacific Ocean: Tropical storm (ts) 05w (Jangmi), located approximately 48 nm south of Chinhae, South Korea, is tracking north-northeastward at 23 knots.

Tropical storm (ts) 06w (Six), located approximately 232 nm east-northeast of Iwo To, Japan, is tracking westward at 09 knots.

Tropical storm 07w (Mekkhala), located approximately 332 nm south-southwest of Taipei, Taiwan, is tracking northward at 10 knots.

Trinidad and Tobago – At least 2 homes were destroyed after heavy rainfall caused flash flooding and landslides in Trinidad on 08 August, 2020. River levels are currently near threshold values in some parts. Some flooding was reported in Caroni. Landslides and flooding blocked roads and Diego Martin Region. The heavy rainfall was accompanied by strong winds which also caused damage, in particular fallen trees.

Greece – At least 3 people have died in flash flooding in Central Greece. Torrential rain and thunderstorms from late 08 August triggered flash flooding on the island of Evia (also Euboea) in Euboea regional unit of Central Greece Region. Parts of the island saw 200 to 300mm of rain fall in just a few hours during the storm.


Arctic wildfires emit more CO2 in two months than whole of 2019

In total, smoke from the wildfires was covering an area of about 3.6 million sqkm on Wednesday – more than a third of the area of Canada

Smoke from massive fires in the Arctic has blanketed nearby cities and could travel thousands of kilometers to other parts of the world, raising concerns among scientists about poor air quality and exacerbated global warming.

Out-of-control wildfires north of the Arctic Circle have released more dangerous greenhouse gases in two months than all of the fires last year combined, the Independent reports.

Ebola – DR Congo

Three additional Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases were reported in Equateur province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), bringing the outbreak total to 77 total cases (73 confirmed, 4 probable). An additional death was recorded, bringing the total to 33.
