In the Southern Hemisphere: Tropical cyclone 08s (Danilo), located approximately 282 nm south-southeast of Diego Garcia, is tracking east-southeastward at 08 knots.
Tropical cyclone 09p (Imogen), located approximately 339 nm west of Cairns, Australia, is tracking southeastward at 09 knots
Malaysia – About 1,000 people in Malaysia’s southern state of Johor have been placed in temporary evacuation centres after flooding caused by two days of heavy rain which started on Friday (Jan 1). Four districts – Kulai, Johor Bahru, Kluang and Kota Tinggi – were hit by flooding.
Australia – Persistent unpredictable bad weather had caused dangerous flash flooding around the mid north coast, closing bridges and roads. A Woolworths and local motel have been flooded and the roof of an aged care facility has partially collapsed after an intense cloudburst in central western NSW. Parkes received 31mm of rain in just 17 minutes during the Saturday afternoon downpour. By Sunday morning the town had recorded 52mm in total. The storm also brought damaging winds and large hailstones.
New Zealand – Heavy rain and hail has caused flooding leading to road closures in parts of the country. Heavy rain and hail hits Timaru and Waimate. More than 50 Auckland beaches declared no-swim zones.
Wildfires – Australia
Multiple bushfires are threatening lives and homes in WA, with emergency services issuing warnings for people in Wundowie in the Shire of Northam, people in Red Gully in the shire of Gingin and people in Mimegarra, Regans Ford, Orange Springs and Cowalla in Gingin and Dandaragan.
People are being urged to leave for a safer place if they can, or if they cannot leave then they should close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.

Plague – DR Congo
According to a recent UNICEF Humanitarian Report, in Ituri province in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), officials have reported 286 cases of bubonic plague, including 27 deaths were reported since August. Rethy and Biringi health zones have the highest number of cases, with 210 registered cases, including 15 deaths.
