In the Southern Hemisphere: Tropical cyclone 23p (Fili), located approximately 217 nm northwest of Noumea, New Caledonia, is tracking east-southeastward at 10 knots.

Colombia – Heavy rainfall in southern Colombia has caused fatalities and damage in Nariño Department. After intense rainfall that began in the early hours of this 02 April 2022, a landslide occurred in the village of Cocha Blanca, in the municipality of Ancuya in western Nariño. Two houses in the village were completely destroyed, killing or injuring the residents inside. The event left 3 people dead and 5 people injured. Landslides in the area also blocked important roads.
Texas – Many North Texans are cleaning up this morning after a night of tornadoes, high winds, hail and flash floods. So far, the National Weather Service has confirmed one EF-2 tornado north of Egan in Johnson County, a smaller EF-0 tornado in Keene and an EF-1 tornado in Collin County. More than 90 structures were damaged in Johnson County by an EF-2 tornado with max winds up to 112 mph. Several families were without power for hours. At least one person was hurt in the Johnson County community of Egan when a travel trailer flipped over.
Climate change: IPCC scientists report five ways to save the planet
Yesterday, UN scientists laid out a plan that they believe could help people avoid the worst impacts of rising temperatures. The report, by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), essentially calls for a revolution in how we produce energy and power our world. To avoid very dangerous warming, carbon emissions need to peak within three years, and fall rapidly after that. Even then, technology to pull CO2 from the air will still be needed to keep temperatures down.
The world needs to move away from coal, technology must be developed to pull co2 from the air, strategies to reduce peoples’ demand for energy must be found and implemented, money must be taken away from fossil fuel energy and directed to clean energy solutions and the rich should become models for low carbon lifestyles.
The researchers say these five key concepts are critical to keeping the world safe.
