Wildfires – California
A wind-whipped fire that erupted near a defunct lumber mill in Northern California on Friday and became a fast-moving inferno has destroyed at least 100 structures, including homes, and prompted the evacuation of thousands of people in rural Siskiyou County, fire authorities said on Saturday. The blaze had grown to cover 4,200 acres by Saturday night and there were reports of several injuries. The entire town of Weed was evacuated.

Syphilis – Japan
Japanese officials say that syphilis cases are increasing at the fastest pace on record this year. The National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) reports as of August 24, Japan has recorded 7,525 syphilis cases across the country.
