Mexico – At least 4 people have died in flash floods after two days of heavy rainfall in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico. The rainfall began on 03 September 2022, with the heaviest falling on 05 September when the city of Cadereyta Jiménez recorded 242.9 mm of rain in 24 hours. More rain is expected. Flash floods struck across several municipalities in the area, damaging roads and buildings. Classes were suspended. Around 350 homes were damaged in several neighbourhoods in and around the state capital Monterrey, including Cadereyta Jiménez and Juárez municipalities. The heavy rain helped replenish local reservoirs which had suffered after a year of drought in the state. Restrictions on drinking water remained in place however.
Georgia, USA – Rainfall in parts of northwest Georgia Sunday has been so heavy, CNN Weather estimates it is at least a one-in-200 year event. “Portions of Chattooga and Floyd counties have received 10-13 inches, with more rain coming. These amounts have resulted in catastrophic flash flooding and a Flash Flood Emergency continues in that area.
Wildfires – California
Of the 32.1 million acres of forestland in California, approximately 2.1 million acres (6.6%) burned in wildfires in the 2002-2011 time period. In the following decade (2012-2021), that figure more than tripled to 7.9 million acres (24.7%).
National Forests in California were particularly hard hit. 10.1% of 12.7 million acres of forestland managed by the USDA Forest Service in California burned in 2002 – 2011 time period. In the 2012 – 2021 decade that figure increased to 38.8%. All told, in the last twenty years almost half of the forestland in California National Forests has burned.

Dengue Fever – Brazil
The Ministry of Health confirmed the death of 831 people from dengue in Brazil in 2022, which represents 3.3 times more victims than in 2021.
Measles – Zimbabwe
In a follow-up on the measles outbreak in Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Health reported as of September 4, 6,291 confirmed cases, 4,459 recoveries and 698 deaths. Cases are mainly concentrated in the eastern part of the country.
