Storms and Floods

Tropical Storms – Roundup of Tropical Storms:

In the Northwest Pacific Ocean: Typhoon 14w (Muifa), located approximately 225 nm west-southwest of Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan, is tracking northward at 06 knots.

Tropical Storm 15w (Merbok), located approximately 307 nm west-northwest of Wake Island, is tracking northeastward at 07 knots.

Nepal – At least 5 people have died and 10 are missing after severe flooding in the district of Darchula in Nepal. Meanwhile in neighbouring parts of Uttarakhand, India, at least one person has died in flooding in Pithoragarh districts. Flooding struck on 09 September 2022 in Naugad and Mahakali municipalities in the district of Darchula after heavy rainfall caused the Lasku and Mahakali (also known as Sharda, Sarda or Kali) rivers to overflow, local media said. Landslides were also reported in the area. 42 houses were completely destroyed in the floods, with a further 9 damaged. Media reported at least 2 bridges were also destroyed. Darchula is close to the border with the Indian state of Uttarakhand, where flooding was also reported in the district of Pithoragarh. Local authorities reported one person died and around 30 houses damaged or destroyed.


Wildfires – Oregon, USA

The Cedar Creek Fire that started August 1 in west-central Oregon was already very large at 27,512 acres on the morning of Thursday September 8. But as a result of dry, windy weather on the following two days when a mapping aircraft was over the fire at 10 p.m. Saturday it had more than tripled in size to 85,900 acres. That night the blaze was about 5 miles northeast of Oakridge.


Malaria – Panama

he Panama Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported this Friday that, at the national level, a total of 4,076 accumulated cases of malaria are registered according to the latest report issued by the Department of Epidemiology.

Dengue Fever – Taiwan

The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced four new cases of local dengue fever, all living in Qianzhen District, Kaohsiung City. The CDC stated that none of the four cases had a recent history of domestic or foreign travel. There have been nine local cases of dengue fever in Taiwan so far this year.
