Malaysia – Sudden floods in inte rior northern and central Sarawak following hours of incessant rain caused rivers to break their banks. Floods reached five meters in several areas. The devastating floods over the past two days in northern and central Sarawak caused widespread damage.

Wales – Cars have been left submerged and people have faced disruption on the roads after a thunderstorm brought flash flooding to parts of Cardiff.

Arkansas, USA – Flash flooding Thursday night closed two state highways in Washington County along with a number of county roads. No injuries were reported.

Arkansas, USA – Relentless flooding in the central U.S. on Friday inundated communities and damaged or spilled over levees on three major rivers in two states, and authorities discovered the body of a drowning victim at a Missouri lake. The fast-flowing Arkansas River smashed a 40-foot (12-meter) hole in a levee in rural western Arkansas, causing water to spill into a nearby community. In northeast Missouri, a levee was overtopped on the Mississippi River, and another levee was topped on the Missouri River in the central part of the state. The flooding has been building for days because of heavy rainfall upstream. In Arkansas, officials were warning of more potential problems on an already strained levee system.

Tanzania – Heavy rains were reported in Dar es Salaam, starting on 8 May 2019 to-date. The floods caused a significant impact to the people in Dar es salaam leading to damage of properties and livelihoods and putting the affected population at risk of diseases. The initial rapid assessment conducted by TRCS from May 20 to May 23rd, indicated that the heavy rains have caused serious flooding in Kinondoni, Temeke and Ilala municipalities of Dar es Salaam.

Georgia – On 12 May 2019, heavy rain and hail affected Kakheti Region of Georgia, mainly Lagodekhi, Akhmeta, Telavi and Dedoplistskaro municipalities. As a result of the heavy rain (125 mm), yards, entrances, basements and first floors of many houses and buildings were flooded. Furthermore, infrastructure, such as roads and bridges connecting the villages, riverbank protections, as well as agricultural lands and fruit trees have been destroyed. The overall population of the affected municipalities is approximately 147,800.

Arkansas, Oklahoma, USA – Residents in parts of Arkansas are preparing for what meteorologists predict will be the worst flooding in recorded history along parts of the Arkansas River over the coming week. Soaked areas of Oklahoma and Arkansas are forecast to receive more rain this week, increasing flooding concerns along the already swollen river. Tulsa County officials say some residents west of Tulsa already have evacuated their homes because of flooding. Downstream in Fort Smith, Ark., officials say flooding has closed roads and flooded buildings.

In the southern hemisphere: Tropical cyclone 12p (Hola), located approximately 165 nm west-southwest of Port Vila, Vanuatu, is tracking south-southeastward at 04 knots.


Queensland, Australia – Residents in the north Queensland town of Ingham are bracing for the town’s worst flood in nearly a decade, which is expected to inundate properties and cut off communities for days. Supermarket shelves have been stripped of fresh food, with several roads already closed around the town leaving rural communities stranded. More than 350 millimetres of rain has fallen in the catchment over the past 36 hours and further heavy downpours are expected.

Arkansas, USA – A small town in Lonoke County is devastated after a levee broke, causing over 100 homes to become flooded. The state has declared the situation in Humnoke a disaster. Heavy rain last week caused the levee just east of town to breech.

Albania – Albanian authorities say that heavy rain has caused flooding in more parts of country, with landslides damaging many roads. The defense ministry said Thursday that about 2,800 hectares (6,900 acres) of agricultural land and grasslands in the north-west have now been flooded. The heavy rain has obliged three hydropower stations in the north to release excess water after many rivers, including the main Drini River, swelled. Power is lacking in some rural areas, and some houses and many roads in the east and south of the country have been damaged from landslides.

In the North Indian Ocean: Tropical cyclone (tc) 02b (Two), located approximately 457 nm south of Chittagong, Bangladesh, is tracking northeastward at 08 knots.


Ivory Coast – At least seven people have died between Wednesday and Thursday following floods that have soaked the Ivorian capital Abidjan. Ivorian firefighters said on Friday that the deaths were mainly caused by collapsing walls following the heavy rains that pounded the capital.

Arkansas, USA – The U.S. Department of Agriculture has declared 23 Arkansas counties disaster areas after recent flooding. Counties designated as disasters include Faulkner, Lonoke and Randolph.

Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois USA – At least eight people died due to flooding and tornadoes in Missouri, Arkansas and Texas over the weekend with dozens more injured. Three tornadoes struck Texas east of Dallas claiming the lives of five people. Floodwaters washed away a 72-year-old woman whose body was recovered in southwestern Missouri. Another woman died after a tree fell on her mobile home in De Witt, Arkansas, about 80 miles east of Little Rock.

Southwest Missouri received considerable amounts of rain late Friday night and into Saturday. Areas are flooded, roadways are closed, sink holes in some parts and the town of Seneca is completely closed down due to the flooding.

Heavy rains moved across southern Illinois on Sunday prompting the National Weather Service to issue flood warnings for the area. Cities including Carbondale, Mount Vernon and Carmi were affected. At least two rivers reached or exceeded flood stage including the Little Wabash and Skillet Fork rivers. High waters also were reported along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers.

Nepal – At least four people died and three others were injured after a mud collapse on the bank of Banke River in the Sarlahi district of Nepal after heavy rains.

Indonesia – Flash floods resulting from heavy rain have killed at least five people in the Central Java regency of Magelang. Magelang Disaster Mitigation Agency said the flash floods had occurred on Saturday after intense rain in the Grabag subdistrict since noon that day. The rain had caused Ndaru River in the village of Nipis to overflow and cause landslides.

Texas, USA – San Marcos, Texas, flooded on Tuesday, April 11, after receiving record rainfall. Vehicles were stranded and nearly submerged when trying to traverse the floodwaters. Severe weather was not just isolated to the San Marcos-Austin area. At least 32 water rescues were reported in Killeen, and one person is missing in Fort Hood after a vehicle was swept off the road.

Arkansas, USA – Storms moving across parts of South Arkansas early Tuesday touched off flash flooding. Before the flooding there were wind damage reports in other parts of South and Central Arkansas from earlier storms Monday night.


Wildfires – USA

Arkansas Forestry Commission crews worked to suppress 55 wildfires over the weekend, which consumed 1895 acres.

The Florida Forest Service is monitoring more than a dozen fires across northeast Florida on Monday. None are threatening homes or structures and have burned more than 1640 acres.

Oklahoma – Thousands of acres burned through Osage and Washington counties on Sunday as crews from nearly a dozen agencies did their best to get the wildfire under control. High winds and dry grass kindled the fire that threatened a casino, home, cars, and wildlife.

Tropical cyclone 03s Amara, located approximately 545 nm east-southeast of port Louis, Mauritius, has tracked southeastward at 06 knots over the past six hours.

Tropical cyclone 04s Bruce, located approximately 734 nm southeast of Diego Garcia, has tracked west-southwestward at 11 knots over the past six hours.

Winter Storm – USA

After more than a foot of snow and significant icing occurred across the southern Plains on Saturday, the ice storm is impacting northern New England for the second half of this weekend.

Disruptive snow will also continue to stretch from the Upper Midwest to central Ontario and northern Maine.

On the warm side of the storm, heavy rain has heightened concerns for flash flooding from the central Gulf Coast to the southern Appalachians as records are being shattered across the East.


Two tornadoes in Arkansas, USA have injured at least five people and damaged more than 23 houses. Arkansas is among the top five states in the US for injuries due to tornadoes.

TC Barbara continues to weaken as it moves inland, dumping heavy rain across portions of southeastern Mexico.

Tornado – Milan, Italy

A rare tornado has hit near Milan, Italy. Tornado damage is reported to be heavy throughout the Brianza region. At least two people have been injured by flying debris nearby A4 highway.

Hailstorm, Cyclone hits Vietnam

Hailstorm and cyclone in Cao Lanh city in Dong Thap province in Vietnam have caused huge damage. Winds have blown away roofs of houses and knocked down electric poles.


Flood in Xinjiang, China

Flooding in Xinjiang, China has claimed the lives of two people and affected over 16,400. Flood waters have damaged around 700 houses and destroyed 2,100 hectares of farmland in Kashgar.

Flooding in Portland, Jamaica

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in eastern Portland, northeast coastal region in Jamaica. Classes have been suspended at several schools. No reports of injuries.

New round of tornadoes in Oklahoma and Arkansas, USA

At least two tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma Thursday. Tornado touched down near the town of Perkins in northeast Oklahoma whereas a second tornado touched near Ripley.

Two more tornadoes hit Arkansas on Thursday injuring nine people. At least two were injured by lightning strike in Rogers.

Cyclone Victoria Weakens in Indian Ocean off Western Australia

Tropical Cyclone Victoria has weakened overnight to a Category Two storm as it continues a southerly path several hundred kilometres out to sea south east of Christmas Island.

Spring Storm Batters USA

A large spring storm delivering heavy snow, strong wind and rain has caused travel problems from Wyoming to Chicago, closing large stretches of highways and delaying hundreds of flights.

Strong wind gusts caused 21 train cars to derail on Tuesday in eastern Nebraska, west of North Bend. No injuries were reported.

In Denver, about 16.51cm of snow fell at the airport, but the weather prompted nearly 500 flight cancellations and deicing planes delayed departures. Flights going to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, meanwhile, were being delayed an average of nearly four hours because of dense fog.

Many areas of Wyoming and western Nebraska received more than a foot of snow. In western Nebraska, road crews reported 8- to 9-foot drifts.

Recent floods in Kenya have claimed the lives of 32 people and displaced more than 18,000.

Heavy rain caused flash flooding across Blytheville, Arkansas, United States. A flash flood watch is in effect.

Tornado in Western Kentucky, USA

An EF-2 tornado touched down in Hampton, Livingston County on Saturday afternoon. Two churches, a grain silo and several homes were damaged.

Avalanche in Switzerland

-Eleven killed in Switzerland avalanche at the Titlis ski resort at Engelberg in the canton of Obwald. Two Swedish tourists also injured.

-The avalanche was 300 metres wide and 800 metres long.

Heavy storm in Aegean region of Turkey

-One killed and another missing as heavy rain and wind hit the provinces of Aegean region in Turkey.

-Storm affected Provinces of Izmir, Antalya and Mugla.

Tornado in Arkansas, U.S.A

-Tornado injured one and damaged homes and buildings in northern Arkansas.

-Tornado caused damage about four miles west of Viola in Fulton County. Disaster area is along the Arkansas-Missouri state line about 160 miles north of Little Rock.

At least 13 dead after Floods in Congo, According to witnesses, dozens of houses collapsed after a river in the Makelekele district burst its banks.

Ten people were confirmed dead in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa due to heavy rains in the province. Another three had been reported missing. A goods train plunged into the Amanzimtoti River near Durban.

Tornadoes in Mississippi and Arkansas, USA leave thousands without power. Severe storms in Mississippi and Arkansas toppled trees and damaged mobile homes, leaving thousands of residents in the dark across the states. At least seven people were injured by the storms as they crossed through Mississippi. Meanwhile, crews in Denver, Colorado, are working to restore electricity after high winds knocked down powerlines.

A satellite image of decaying typhoon, tropical storm Prapiroon, shows a massive swirl and a rarely observed “street” of mini-swirls. These vortices in the western Pacific adjacent to one another are examples of a decaying typhoon and a phenomenon known as a “von Karman vortex street”.



Prapiroon is no threat to land, safely positioned 325 nautical miles south of Yokosuka, Japan and is headed out to sea.
