Dengue Fever – Vietnam

In a follow-up on the dengue fever situation in Vietnam this year, the Ministry of Health reports the case and death tally has increased to 314,271 cases and 115 deaths to date.

Dengue and Chikungunya – Paraguay

Currently, in the country there is a progressive increase in the curve of notifications of suspected cases of dengue and chikungunya. To date, 1,839 total dengue cases and 531 chikungunya cases have been reported in 2022.

HIV/AIDS – DR Congo

Based on UN/AIDS figures, 14,000 people died of HIV/AIDS in 2021, in the DRC. Access and availability of treatment remains problematic due to lack of funding. More than 500,000 people are currently living with HIV/AIDS in the DRC.

Measles – South Africa

The South Africa National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) reports 57 measles outbreak cases were reported in Limpopo province and Mpumalanga province from September 1 to November 16, 2022.

Cholera – Haiti

Since the notification of the first two confirmed cases of Vibrio cholerae O1 in the greater Port-au-Prince area on 2 October 2022, to 16 November 2022, the Haitian Ministère de la Santé Publique et de la Population (MSPP) reported a total of 9,660 suspected cases across the country, including 816 confirmed cases.

Dengue Fever – Philippines

Concerning total cases, authorities have reported 187,560 dengue cases, with 613 deaths, substantially higher than the 213 deaths for the whole of 2021.

Ebola – Uganda

In a follow-up on the outbreak Ebola disease caused by the Sudan ebolavirus (SUDV) in Uganda, since the outbreak was declared on September 20 through today, a total of 136 confirmed cases and 54 confirmed deaths (CFR 39.7%) have been reported. 18 cases have been reported in health care workers, including seven deaths.

Measles – Ohio, USA

Officials with Columbus Public Health (CPH) and Franklin County Public Health (FCPH) report investigating a measles outbreak associated with a local child care facility. Currently, there are four confirmed cases, all in unvaccinated children with no travel history. The child care facility is cooperating, has notified parents, and has temporarily closed down.

Monkeypox

Monkeypox was found to be a contributing factor in the October death of a New Jersey resident with a history of underlying medical conditions, the New Jersey Department of Health announced Monday. This is the first reported death in New Jersey tied to monkeypox.

Dengue Fever – Americas

From the beginning of the year through October 8, WHO officials have reported a total of 2,499,358 cases of dengue in the Americas. The highest number of dengue cases in the region have been reported by the following countries: Brazil with 2,182,229 cases (87.3%), Nicaragua with 63,853 cases (2.6%), Peru with 60,869 cases.

Monkeypox

Monkeypox has infected more than 77,000 people in more than 100 countries worldwide, and — similar to COVID-19 — mutations have enabled the virus to grow stronger and smarter, evading antiviral drugs and vaccines in its mission to infect more people.

Dengue Fever – Vietnam

Vietnam health authorities recorded more than 10,000 cases of dengue fever across the country in the past week, including two additional deaths. Since the beginning of 2022, Vietnam has reported 292,439 cumulative cases of dengue fever and 112 deaths.

Cholera, Typhoid – Philippines

Philippines health officials report 4,102 cumulative cholera cases this year through October 15, a 254 percent increase compared to the same period in 2021 (1,159). In addition, the death toll from cholera this year has increased 311 percent– 9 in 2021 vs 37 in 2022 year to date.

Through October 15, health officials report 12,124 cumulative cases, a 150 percent increase from 4,844 cases reported same period in 2021. Fatalities from typhoid fever jumped from 19 last year to 56 in 2022 year to date.

Ebola – Uganda

Update: Two new confirmed cases (Both female, 43yrs, both from Kassanda who are linked to known cases), bringing the cumulative confirmed cases to 128. Two additional confirmed deaths (both from Kassanda), bringing the total to 34.

Visceral Leishmaniasis – Kenya

The visceral leishmaniasis, or kala-azar outbreak in Kenya has been continuous since 2020. A total of 2037 visceral leishmaniasis (suspected and confirmed) cases have been reported. The outbreak is active in four counties.

Cholera – Cameroon

Authorities in Cameroon report an outbreak of cholera in the Far North Region, As of 24 October, the Ministry of Public Health reported 193 suspected cholera cases and 11 related deaths in the region. The situation is of concern in the Minawao refugee camp, where 86 cases and 3 deaths have been reported.

Vietnamese health authorities reported nearly 12,000 dengue fever cases in the past week, bringing the cumulative total to 270,278 to date. The country death toll has risen to 108.

Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever – Uganda

Health officials in Kaberamaido District in eastern Uganda report its first case of Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever.

Cholera – Lebanon

Lebanon’s health ministry reported in an update Tuesday an additional 48 confirmed cholera cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the new cumulative total to 287 since the first case was reported on October 5, the first case reported in Lebanon since 1993. The cholera death toll in the country is now 11.

Ebola – Uganda

The Uganda Ministry of Health reported 15 additional Ebola disease, caused by Sudan virus, bringing the total confirmed cases in the current outbreak to 90. The death toll remains at 28.

Cholera – Lebanon

Lebanon has reported 80 new cases of cholera, which raises the number of registered cases to 169.

Cholera – Haiti

Since the first confirmed cholera cases in Haiti were reported on October 2, after a more than 3 year hiatus, the total keeps creeping higher now at 111 confirmed cases (not including the 12 confirmed cases at the Prison Civile de Port-au-Prince outbreak) through October 17. The total suspected cases have risen to 996.

Diphtheria in Migrants – Europe

European health authorities are reporting an increase in diphtheria cases through September this year. As of 26 September 2022, 92 cases of diphtheria among migrants, including a fatal one, have been reported this year by seven European countries – Austria, Germany, United Kingdom, Norway, Belgium, France and Switzerland.

Ebola – Uganda

The Uganda Ministry of Health reported today an additional four confirmed Sudan Virus Disease (SVD) cases and seven new fatalities, bringing the total cases and deaths from the outbreak declared on September 20 to 48 and 17, respectively.

Cholera – Lebanon

In a follow-up on the first cholera case reported in Lebanon since 1993, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reported on Monday 14 cholera cases in Akkar Governorate, which shares a border with Syria, with another 41 cases under investigation.

Dengue Fever – Pakistan

The number of dengue fever cases in Pakistan have risen by more than 10,000 since the beginning of October, according to the most recent data from the health ministry. It was reported on October 1 that Pakistan saw a total tally of 30,267 cases in the country this year. Today, officials put the dengue tally at 41,746.
