On Thursday, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declared the ongoing spread of monkeypox virus in the United States a Public Health Emergency (PHE).

Monkeypox, Typhoid, Plague – DR Congo

From 1 January – 28 July 2022, the Democratic Republic of the Congo reported 2,266 suspected including 163 confirmed cases from 116 health zones across 20 provinces.

In 2022, from the beginning of the year to 10 July 2022, 1,021,535 suspected cases of typhoid fever including 471 deaths were recorded in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

DRC reports 537 suspected plague cases in the health zone of Rethy, located in Djugu territory, Ituri province, DR Congo for the four month period of 27 Mar 2022 to 31 Jul 2022.

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic Fever – Iraq

In a brief statement, the ministry stated that the number of hemorrhagic fever cases rose to 273, while 49 deaths were recorded.

Syphilis – Japan

Japan is on target to set a record in syphilis cases this year, possibly topping 10,000 cases in 2022 if cases grow at the current pace. As of July 27, Japan’s National Institute of Infectious Diseases reported 6385 total syphilis cases.

Dengue Fever – Philippines

In a follow-up on the dengue fever situation in the Philippines, the Department of Health reports 82,597 cases as of July 16. The dengue fever death toll this year has eclipsed the 300 mark with 319 fatalities.

Anthrax – Canada

An anthrax outbreak is being reported and monitored in the remote areas of the largest national park in Canada– Wood Buffalo National Park, according to Parks Canada. As of July 28, officials have reported a total of 59 bison mortalities that are suspected to be caused by anthrax.

Monkeypox – Spain

In Spain, as of July 29, there have been a total of 4,298 confirmed cases of monkeypox reported. One death has also been reported.

Dengue Fever

Philippines – The Philippines Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 9,000 dengue fever cases in the past two weeks, now reporting 73,909 total dengue cases since the beginning of the year.

Myanmar – Officials in Myanmar have recorded 7,835 cases of dengue fever and 31 deaths in the first half of 2022.

Marburg Virus – Ghana

Two more people with Marburg identified in Ghana, family of the first case. One has unfortunately died. Outbreak total now 4 cases and 3 deaths.

Monkeypox

France – Public Health France reports as of Tuesday, July 26, 1,837 confirmed cases have been identified in France.

Brazil – Brazil has 813 confirmed cases of monkeypox. Health authorities are concerned that cases may be underreported because there are not enough tests available.

Anthrax – Colorado, USA

Colorado agriculture officials have confirmed anthrax in at least two beef cattle herds in Sedgwick County. These are the first confirmed cases of anthrax in cattle in Colorado since 2012, when more than 75 head of cattle died in a multi-premises outbreak in the northeast counties.

Rotavirus – Ukraine

In the first six months of 2022, 3,533 cases of rotavirus enteritis were registered in Ukraine, of which 3,388 were in children.

Polio – Pakistan

An 18-month child was paralyzed by wild polio in Lakki Marwat, the Pakistan Polio Laboratory in Islamabad confirmed on Friday. This is the thirteenth case in Pakistan this year.

Marburg Virus – Ghana

In a follow-up on the Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak in Ghana, health authorities report a suspected MVD case, the third and a close contact to one of the initial two deceased cases, died on July 21.

The number of dengue fever cases continue their rise in Laos as health ministry officials report the tally has surpassed 11,000.

Japan – Japanese officials saw 200,975 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, surpassing 200,000 cases/day for the first time, according to Japan media.

Monkeypox

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency. This is the highest alarm the organisation can sound. Almost 15,400 cases have been reported from 72 countries since infections were reported in May.

Monkeypox

Hawaii – The Hawaiʻi Department of Health (DOH) reported Friday that it has identified three additional cases of monkeypox. This brings the total number of cases in Hawaiʻi to eleven.

Canada – The first monkeypox case has been reported and confirmed in Yukon.

Chicago – The Chicago Department of Public Health reports that the city now has more than 200 monkeypox cases.

Maine – The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) has identified a case of monkeypox in Maine, the first case reported in the state.
