In the Northwest Pacific Ocean: Tropical depression 04w (Choi-Wan), located approximately 83 nm south-southeast of Manila, Philippines, is tracking northwestward at 10 knots.

In the Eastern Pacific Ocean: Tropical Storm 02e (Bianca), located approximately 1106 nm south-southeast of San Diego, is tracking west-northwestward at 05 knots.

Brazil – The Negro River (Rio Negro) at Manaus, capital of the state of Amazonas in northwestern Brazil, reached a record high of 29.98 metres on 01 June 2021. This is the highest level ever measured at the at the port’s measuring station, beating the previous record high of 29.97 metres set during the floods of 2012. Fifteen districts of the city have been affected. Homes have been inundated and livelihoods disrupted. Residents have to walk on wooden walkways and bridges through the city. In addition, more than 10 tons of calcium oxide have been applied to the flood waters in central areas of ​​the city in order to reduce odour and the proliferation of insects and diseases transmitted by stagnant water.

Chile – Dozens of people have evacuated their homes while others have been left isolated after heavy rain triggered landslides and flooding in Bio Bío, Araucania, Los Ríos and Los Lagos Regions of Chile. Around 15,000 people were left without power.

Wildfires – Bolivia

Wildfires are sweeping across Bolivia’s Pantanal wetlands near the border with Paraguay, putting at risk thousands of hectares of an area known for its rich wildlife that was hit by major fires just two years ago.

The blazes have already damaged some 2,200 hectares (5,400 acres). Firefighters are trying to douse the flames, which are spreading in long lines across grassland and forest.
