North Carolina, USA – An unoccupied beach house on the North Carolina Outer Banks was filmed collapsing into the ocean on Tuesday, May 10, amid severe coastal flooding. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore National Park said the collapse occurred on Ocean Drive in Rodanthe, and advised visitors to avoid the beach. A second house also collapsed, but the scene was not caught on camera. The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood warning and a high surf advisory for the area until Thursday morning and said two to four feet of inundation could be possible for beach-adjacent properties and roadways.


Wildfires – California, USA

A brush fire in the Laguna Niguel community of Orange County in Southern California spread into homes Wednesday. It was named “Coastal Fire.” Although only about 200 acres in size, at least 20 homes were damaged or destroyed.

Cleveland – Chuginadak Island (USA) : On 10 May AVO raised the Aviation Color Code and the Volcano Alert Level for Cleveland to Yellow and Advisory, respectively, noting that elevated surface temperatures and sulfur dioxide emissions were identified in satellite data during the past few days.

Karymsky – Eastern Kamchatka (Russia) : KVERT reported that a thermal anomaly over Karymsky was visible in satellite images during 29 April-6 May. Explosions on 4 May generated ash plumes that rose as high as 3.2 km (10,500 ft) a.s.l. and drifted about 60 km SW.
