In the Eastern North Pacific Ocean: Hurricane 04e (Bonnie), located approximately 986 nm south-southeast of San Diego, is tracking west-northwestward at 10 knots.

India – Torrential rain in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India, has caused landslides and flash floods in several districts. Local media said a “cloudburst” dumped torrential rain in Choj village of Manikarn valley of Kullu district. Houses and a bridge across the Parbati River were severely damaged or destroyed. Police said as many as 4 people were feared missing. Landslides and flooding struck in other areas of the district, blocking roads and damaging buildings. Around 30 employees at the Malana hydropower project were trapped inside a building and were later rescued. Meanwhile the heavy rain has taken its toll in Shimla district, home of the state capital. One person died and 2 were injured in a landslide in in Dhalli. The National Highway-05 was blocked by flood and landslide debris near Jhakri.

Ecuador – Disaster officials in Ecuador reported heavy rain caused the overflow of 10 rivers in various locations in the country from 03 to 05 July 2022. At least 3 people have died and dozens displaced. One person died after being swept away by floods in Azogues in the province of Cañar. Another person died when a house collapsed in Azuay. A third fatality was reported after floods in the canton of Guamote in the province of Chimborazo. Areas of Tungurahua Province recorded more than 200 mm in 24 hours to 04 July 2022. The rain caused problems on the roads and authorities announced the closure of traffic on the Baños-Puyo highway due to landslides and flood debris.

Dengue Fever – Vietnam

Dengue fever cases in Vietnam are increasing rapidly, currently there are about 92,000 cases, 36 deaths. In a follow-up on the dengue fever outbreak in Vietnam, the Ministry of Health reported 15,000 additional cases in 10 days, bringing the outbreak total as of July 4 to 92,000. There have been 36 deaths from dengue.

Roundup of Global Volcanic Activity – New Activity for the week 29 June – 5 July 2022

Chikurachki – Paramushir Island (Russia) : An explosive phase at Chikurachki began at 1230 on 30 June (local time), prompting KVERT to raise the Aviation Color Code to Orange (the second highest level on a four-color scale). Ash plumes from the explosions rose to 4.5 km (14,800 ft) a.s.l. and drifted 300 km W and 50 km SSE. Activity declined by 1230 on 1 July. Gas-and-steam emissions were visible during 2-5 July.

Ebeko – Paramushir Island (Russia) : KVERT reported that moderate activity at Ebeko was ongoing. A thermal anomaly over the volcano was identified in satellite images on 23 June. According to volcanologists in Severo-Kurilsk (Paramushir Island, about 7 km E) explosions generated ash plumes that rose up to 3.5 km (11,500 ft) a.s.l. and drifted NW, NE, and SE during 24-25 and 30 June.
