Panama – Heavy rain in Panamá has caused floods and landslides in several parts of the country since 12 June 2021. The heavy rain caused rivers to overflow, landslides and flash flooding in urban areas. In 24 hours to 14 June 2021, Panama City recorded 114.5 mm of rain and Pacora in Panamá District recorded 92.5 mm. At least 400 homes have been damaged across Panama, Panamá Oeste and Chiriquí Provinces.

Spain – Rioja reported 54 weather-related incidents in a 3 hour period during the evening of 14 June, mostly in areas between Haro and Logroño. One person was rescued from flood waters in Navarrete. Flooding blocked roads in Briones and Uruñuela.

Guatemala – Three people died in flash floods in Sololá Department, Guatemala, according to disaster authorities in the country. The disaster struck after heavy rainfall caused the Quibá river to overflow in the village of Guineales, municipality of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán in Sololá department. Three people, including 2 children, were swept away by the force of the flooding. Around 30 houses were severely damaged and 85 people have moved to shelters.

Guyana – The government of Guyana has declared a disaster in the country in response to the flooding that had affected all regions since mid-May 2021. Meanwhile weeks of flooding continues in neighbouring Suriname, where over 10,000 people have been affected.

Guatemala – Severe weather in Guatemala from 21 to 24 May 2021 affected over 10,000 people and damaged more than 200 homes across the departments of Baja Verapaz, Izabal, Petén, Quetzaltenango, San Marcos, Santa Rosa, Sololá and Suchitepéquez, disaster officials said. Meanwhile landslides triggered by rainfall blocked several provincial roads.

Guatemala – The disaster agency in Guatemala (CONRED) reported heavy rain caused flooding and landslides parts of Quiché Department over the last few days. Over 165 homes have been damaged and 1,500 people displaced. The heavy rain caused 4 landslides in Chicamán municipality and 2 in Uspantán municipality, where 3 incidents of flooding were also reported. Flooding from the La Taña river damaged around 100 homes in La Taña village, Uspantán, forcing 750 people to evacuate.

Guatelama – At least 4 people have died after a landslide struck in Sololá Department in the west of Guatemala. Guatemala’s disaster agency CONRED said that the landslide struck in the village of San Marcos La Laguna late on 06 October. Days of heavy rain had destabilised the ground on slopes surrounding the village, triggering a landslide that pushed a boulder measuring 3 metres by 5 metres onto houses below. At least 8 houses were completely destroyed and a further 44 were damaged or considered at risk.

Vietnam – Vietnam‘s Disaster Management Authority (DMA) reports that at least 6 people have died or are missing after days of heavy rainfall in central parts of the country. DMA said one person died in floods in Hai Lang district, Quang Tri province. Also in Quang Tri, 4 people are missing after being swept away by flash flooding in the mountainous district of Huong Hoa. Local media report that around 5,000 people from 1,100 families in Huong Hoa have evacuated their homes and moved to safer areas after the Sesan River broke its banks. Heavy rain in the province also caused landslides which have blocked several roads. As much as 435 mm of rain fell in Huong Linh in Huong Hoa district in 24 hours to 07 October, 2020.

Guatemala – Heavy rainfall has affected several departments of Guatemala since 12 September, causing flooding and landslides. In a statement of 16 September, the country’s National Coordination System for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) said that over 25,000 people have been affected by floods, landslides or rain-related incidents. As of 16 September, 11 people were evacuated and over 100 homes damaged but no fatalities were reported.

Indonesia – Further heavy rainfall and flooding has been reported in parts of Indonesia. Earlier FloodList reported at least 4 people had died and 2,000 displaced after flooding in the 4 departments of Gorontalo, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and North Sumatra. Since then, disaster authorities in Indonesia have reported that 2 people died and 1 house was destroyed after flooding and a landslide in Sorong City, West Papua Province on 16 September. Flooding on 13 September flooding in Donggala Regency of Central Sulawesi Province. Affected around 1,245 people and damaged 133 homes.

Nigeria – At least three people have been killed or are missing due to flash floods in Kwara, Nigeria. A bridge embankment collapsed in Oko-Erin leaving one person dead and two others missing. Heavy downpours destroyed 100 houses and displaced at least 300 people in Eket Local Government Area.

Ivory Coast – Heavy rains and floods in parts of southern Ivory Coast have damaged buildings, blocked roads, disrupted transport and caused landslides. The districts of Andre Chateau d’Eau, Abobo-Belleville and Riviera Palmeraie were the worst affected.

Indonesia – Flooding has once again hit parts of Aceh Province in Indonesia after heavy rain caused several rivers to overflow on 16 June.

Guatemala & Honduras – Heavy rain has triggered flooding and landslides in parts of Guatemala and Honduras over the last few days. Two people have died after heavy rain triggered a landslide in western Honduras. The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) in Guatemala reports that landslides and flooding have affected over 4,000 people from 16 June. A landslide in San Pedro Necta, Huehuetenango, has blocked parts of the CA-1 road, preventing the passage of hundreds of vehicles. Landslides were also reported in Nentón, about 35km to the north, where Conred has distributed relief supplies to affected families.

Thailand – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) in Thailand reports that severe weather including wind storms, high waves and heavy rain has affected several provinces over the last few days.

England – Heavy rain has caused flash floods in the Bournemouth and Poole areas. The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Bournemouth, stating there was a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
